Luxus Walnut gives back to the future of gunsmithing.
________________________________Clay Barker of Luxus Walnut made a generous donation to Terry Shoemaker one of the gunsmithing students of Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado. Clay learned about Terry making some of the parts for his Mauser project at school that were far beyond what was called for in order to hopefully demonstrate his metal working skills at the up coming Brownells Career Fair in April of this year in Des Moines, Ia. Terry had built from scratch a floor plate for his 98 Mauser made of five separate pieces of metal patterned after Jerry Fishers bottom metal and then machined it to mimic the hinged floor plate of a Winchester Mod.70 which was quite an undertaking in itself. After the time and money spent on Terry's metal work he found himself short on funds to stock his efforts in an appropriate piece of wood to warrant taking to the Career Fair.
Speedy Gonzalez one of Terry's instructors at the college was having a conversation with Clay Barker at Luxus and casually mentioned Terry's work and dilemma to Clay, who immediately felt that such an effort should not go un-noticed and offered to furnish a Turkish walnut blank for Terry to complete his project for the Career Fair. Clay expressed the need for industry to look at the future of the shooting sports in the U.S. by supporting the future gun builders of America. Clay was quoted at the 2009 American Custom Gunmakers Guild Show in Reno, Nevada "That only through education and exposure will the American shooting sports endure".
We would like to thank Clay and Luxus Walnut for making sure that our dream for the future of the shooting sports does not fade and for assurance to future gunmakers in America that industry has not forgotten those who pursue a dream of excellence and pride in ones work.
