Cheap & easy shotgun bbl dent removal 08/24/2008 - By Adrian Canton
How to remove a shotgun bbl dent quickly, easily, & cheaply
Since I don't do many scattergun bbl repairs, I don't have a hydraulic dent raiser. Faced with removing the dent in a Charles Daly bbl or passing-up a paying customer, I came up with the following fix:
After measuring the ID, I turned a piece of cylindrical CRS that was 2" in length. I polishished it out smoothly, drilled a 1/8" hole on opposing sides, one high, one low and then cut it on the diagonal so I was left with 2 sliding pieces. The cut sides were polished for smooth travel under pressure. I then gathered 2 pieces of drill rod that extended about 4" out the breech & bore that fit into the appropriate holes.
I then secured one rod in the vise TIGHTLY, fished the 3 remaining components in the correct position, gave the bore rod an almighty smack with my BFH and viola!!!
no more dent. I suppose Mr. Blish should get some credit...
